BACKLOG OF HOLIDAYS
Why is it impossible to stay home for years together ? Why is it so agonizing and a torture to be locked up ?
But what ever the reason, we do want that “Get Away” We all enjoy that tingling feel in our stomachs as we are tightening our seat belts before take off.
We all enjoy the thought of getting away. the thought of wandering. That feeling of being away for a while.
Because travel is now become our essence of a good life. It is no longer for the rich class nor for the upper middle class. But across all classes. Only the budget and the destination varies. But yes that WANT to travel is now another ingrown hormone which is within us to stay.
Keeping in mind all as above, the same human is now locked up at home for almost 2 years, the whole holiday world has collapsed. His friendly neighborhood travel agent is closed down. His favorite airline is no longer available. his warm Travel advisor is now making pizzas in a different city. His “Home Delivery” Visa assistant has changed his mobile numbers and home.
Now somewhere in the near future, (Hopefully) things are normal again and one can get to ‘get away” . The big question here will be – Can he ‘get away’ so easily as before. (Not Road trips)
The answers lie in the current situation of your friendly neighborhood travel agent. He is struggling to survive, and so is the airline, and same with the visa consultant. This time it is going to be different.
Things will limp back to normalcy instead of taking off like a rocket. First of all , with the Euro at almost 90 Rupees (Indian Rupees), the airfares will seem like business class fares. and limited in the beginning. The hotels and restaurants will also seem exorbitant as they will be taking in limited people. and yes , with the social distancing in place, your turn at the visa office will be much later in comparison to the normal times.
Even after you do take that trip, you will be subject to social distancing at almost all places, like the queue for check in to your flights, the Covid test/vaccine documentation, the long lines at the emigration etc.
But before you actually take off, the process may have just got longer and may require more time to book than before. So in this case it will be very advisable to plan more ahead than you usually did, and not to think of those last minute trips for now.
Since the airlines will be limited as many of them will take time to come back to their original strengths , you will have to compromise with your dates of departures.
In such a scenario, when travel does eventually take a rebirth, you need to give a thought earlier then before and start your booking well in advance.
IT MAY NOT BE TOO MUCH TROUBLE TO CALL YOUR TRAVEL AGENT AND GIVE HIM HOPE. If possible, please pay him a small advance to keep him going. His obligation to you will ensure a fantastic service level !!
So we all have to keep in mind all as above and the other things that may come our way to ensure that your much awaited travel after a long long gap is smooth and fun.
But before that you may want to actually read gerald Goulds Wander thirst –
BEYOND the East the sunrise, beyond the West the sea,
And East and West the wander-thirst that will not let me be;
It works in me like madness, dear, to bid me say good-bye;
For the seas call, and the stars call, and oh! the call of the sky!
I know not where the white road runs, nor what the blue hills are;
But a man can have the sun for a friend, and for his guide a star;
And there’s no end of voyaging when once the voice is heard,
For the rivers call, and the roads call, and oh! the call of the bird!
Yonder the long horizon lies, and there by night and day
The old ships draw to home again, the young ships sail away;
And come I may, but go I must, and, if men ask you why,
You may put the blame on the stars and the sun and the white road and the sky.
