- Berlin is 9 times bigger than Paris with an area of 891 km Square. And its population of about 6 Million people, is only half that of Paris.
- Berlin has about 180 Kilometers of Waterways including canals. And has over 1700 bridges, compared to about 400 bridges in Venice.
- Europe’s Biggest Railway station is in Berlin, with about 30,000 passengers passing through it per day. It also is the most expensive, as it is built at a cost of about 700 Million Euros !
- Berlin has more Doner Kebab shops than Istanbul, with over 1600 such outlets. This Turkish dish was said to be first bought to Berlin in around 1954, and has been a rage in Berlin since.
- There are 72 places in the world by the same name as Berlin !. and if you count smaller areas, then the list is over a 100, these includes countries like South Africa, USA, Russia, etc.
- The East Side Gallery is the largest open air art gallery. It is actually a 1.3 Kilometer part of the “Iron Curtain” wall which was brought down in 1990, after which 118 artists began painting on it.
- The weather in Berlin can get as hot as 38 degrees centigrade to as low as – 26 degrees.
- The everlasting capital – Berlin became the capital of the Margraviate of Brandenburg (1417–1701), the Kingdom of Prussia (1701–1918), the German Empire (1871–1918), the Weimar Republic (1919–1933), and the Third Reich (1933–1945). And again after 1990 after the breaking of the German wall.
- 40 % of Berlin is underground, this is including all the sewers, tunnels, bunkers, Railway networks and Secret Passage networks.
- The oldest restaurant in Berlin, the “Zur letzten Instanz” is around 400 years old and is still active !
